Dear Rosemary and dear Rizkalla- Peter:

Greetings in Christ to you and to your extended families. May the Grace and Peace of our Lord be with you all. Thank you for sharing with me also these heart breaking concerns on the recent awful conditions for Christians in Iraq. Sorry to learn that your dear brother Paul passed away leaving behind such a large family in need. I shall continue to pray for them. Meanwhile, I hope, Knox Church and the local Aramaic Church, St. Barsaumo, would consider supporting this bereaved family. Please Peter and Rosemary, contact the Pastor of Knox Church and the Priest of St. Barsaumo Church and encourage them to get their churches involved. It is interesting that the Priest is planning to visit me next Wednesday morning for some fund raising effort for their new Church building project. I am sure he knows about the tragedy with Christians in Iraq. I want to also mention this need to him with hopes that he takes a quick action. Peter do you know him personally? He has a number of Iraqi Christians attending his Church. Please be assured that I'll be praying for you Peter here and for your extended family in Iraq. May the Peace of our Lord fill your hearts and homes. Sincerely in Christ, joseph

Only one life; it will soon be past;

only what is done for Christ will last.

Dear Friends, I got a telephone call at about 3 this afternoon from Peter Matti. Petter told me in tears that his dear brother Paul died this morning in Arvil Hospital. This was subsequent to the bombing of his home on the 29[size=7]th or 30th of December by Moslem extremists. Peter had talked to Paul one more time at about 3 o’clock this morning, and read him Scriptures.

Paul’s body has been taken to his father’s home in the Christian village of Karemlash (which means Vineyard in Arameic, the language that the Lord Jesus spoke). Karemlash is one hour north of Nineveh. Peter is heart-broken and asking prayer for his sister-in-law, the six children and Peter & Paul’s six sisters. Two of the sisters live in Ontario, and one is now flying to Iraq. The other sister in Ontario has gone to the hospital. She is very upset in the loss of her dear brother. Paul will be buried beside their parents. In Karmlesh.

Your prayers for the family will be much needed and appreciated. Perhaps some of us will find time to register a complaint with the prime minister and government officials re such treatment of decent law-abiding citizens in Iraq, whose only crime is to be Christian. This would appear to be a planned pogrom, which was planned and announced for the end of the year. You can see several articles about terror in Iraq on the internet.

Dear Friends,

Peter Matti is a friend of mine and a dear brother from Baghdad in good standing at Knox Presbyterian Church, Toronto. I’m passing on this urgent prayer request for Peter’s twin brother, Paul, who lives in Baghdad. Peter informed me that his own given name is actually Rizkalle (Gift of God), and his brother’s Salalla (Help from God).

Paul (Sadalla) Matti, his wife and six children were at home in Baghdad on the evening of December 29th or the 30th, 2010. The Muslims in Iraq had been threatening that they would bomb Christian homes at the New year, and they did indeed. A bomb was placed outside the front of the Matti home, destroying the front of the house and the car. Miraculously, the whole family was spared and is alive. Windows in their sister’s home next door were also broken. People are putting message onto the internet, asking why this would happen to Sadalla Matti, such a good man, so good to everyone.

Paul himself had diabetes before this event, but never needed dialysis. However, since the accident, he has become gravely ill and his kidney and liver are not functioning. He has been taken to a private hospital five-six hours north of Baghdad in Arbil (north of Ninevey), a Christian area currently under attack from the Moslems. He is attended by his wife and his younger sister.

Peter talked to Paul this morning. Although his breathing was very slow and he couldn’t talk, he could hear Peter and he agreed with all his prayers. They held the receiver to his ear. His older sister is traveling with four of the children to visit him in the hospital. Paul has received dialysis five times since the attack; but this morning his blood pressure was down and he could not receive dialysis.

Peter reminded me of the news that about three weeks ago 58 people were massacred in the Roman Catholic Church of Mary in Baghdad. Also within the last month, churches have been bombed churches, priests and bishops killed and school buses carrying Christian university students set on fire. The terrorist acts have caused Paul’s children and all of the Christian children not to go to school in Baghdad, as they are afraid of being killed.

Peter prays that the Lord will miraculously heal his dear brother and thus show His glory in Iraq. He requests particularly that everyone pray that God would bring Paul’s kidney and liver back to function normally and heal his diabetes. He is sure that God can do that.

If you would like to receive further updates from Peter on the condition of his brother, please let him know at: rizakall.matti@sympatico.ca or by telephone at 905-495-3852. Of course, Peter and his family here also need prayer and support in this stressful situation. Perhaps those who can afford the time could be in touch with the prime minister, our minister of external affairs, and their member of parliament to ask that they do what they can to bring peace and justice to that region.

Thank you, and God bless you all,

Rosemary

PS The Quran, chapter (sura) 9:29-30 teaches people to kill Jews and Christians and to take over all their possessions. The present attacks fit into this mandate. A simple Google search for terror + Iraq shows that this mandate is being enthusiastically followed in increasing measure in Iraq today.
