“Among the 7 thousand Christian refugees who fled from Mosul and Nineveh Plain that have found refuge in Jordan, more than 1,400 are school age children. Now, thanks to the involvement of Caritas Jordan, a government Committee have gathered to consider the case of these students and find a solution to their difficulties,” Catholic news agency Fides reports. “The decision taken is that of integrating the Iraqi Christian children in the education and training system of the Hashemite Kingdom, with in particular the effective collaboration of Christian schools.”
“The large-scale integration of Iraqi Christian students in Jordanian schools should begin in the school semester which has just started. But their entry in public schools is impossible due to a series of difficulties, starting with the overcrowding of classrooms. Caritas Jordan has verified the willingness to accept the students in the schools of the Latin Patriarchate and other Christian schools, including those linked to the Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem,” Fides goes on to say.
“Iraqi Christian Students represent a portion of the school population marked by specific problems: some of them do not speak Arabic fluently and others have temporary learning difficulties related to psychological trauma they suffered after being forced to flee their homes along with their families. Their inclusion will take place with the involvement of the Ministry of Social Development and the support of some international NGOs engaged in helping children.”
