| Bishop Francis KalabatJune 13 at 10:11pm · UPDATE: In the last 48 hours the Church as well as many community organizations and leaders have stepped up to try to stop the bleeding that is happening in our community. The latest update is the following: Congressman Levin is leading efforts to get the entire Michigan delegation to sign a letter requesting that the deportations are stopped. The letter is being sent directly to homeland security Secretary John Kelly. Also, attorneys representing the community as a whole are in Washington DC securing meetings with homeland security and the White House to halt the deportations. Additionally, the ACLU is planning to file a federal lawsuit tomorrow to halt the deportations. Several community organizations and community members are volunteering to provide support to individual families. It's very important that each of those impacted seek individual counsel and representation and file an emergency stay of removal. Many lawyers, congressman, congresswoman, senators, and volunteers have dedicated their time and efforts to help. A special thanks to all of them as well as to the Iraqi Ambassador who is doing all that he can. We must recognize that it is a very difficult situation, one that is going to create a long struggle and it is beyond just speaking to our representatives. We will not stop in these extremely difficult times but we must recognize that there is no easy solution. This is a time for us to come together. There will be a lot of agony but God is with us and we will struggle with him for you. This is a time for working not fighting, for praying not cursing, for building even in extreme pain. | |

| Latest update We were able to get several congressional members to support the cause and that the issue has reached the desk of the Vice President. ALSO, the Ashcroft law firm that were hired for this cause is meeting at the White House tomorrow. We are also gathering more congressional leaders to sign a petition that is being sent to John F. Kelly, The US Secretary of Homeland Security, to help stop the raids. | |
