Happy 14th of July… Happy Independence Day

The uprising of Utu Khegal was the first Iraqi revolution against a foreign occupation in recorded history. Amazingly, it broke out more than four thousand years ago on July 14, the same date Iraqis nowadays commemorate their revolution of 1958 and the birth of the first Iraqi Republic. Prof. Taha Baqer mentions the ancient event, the revolution, when giving an account about the reign of Utu Khegal, the founder of the Fifth Dynasty of Uruk.
