Iraqi news agency Rudaw quoted Ninevah police security sources as saying, “The organization finished wiring the church with explosives this morning and detonated it, leaving widespread destruction in the church and neighboring buildings." The news of the destruction came late as the area is under the ISIS.
The militants had already targeted the church last June when they tore down and decapitated the statue of ‎Our Lady that stood on the clock tower.‎ Prior to the latest destruction, the old church - which stood on the foundation of what was the most ancient Christian church in Mosul - had withstood previous attacks by Islamic militants, including a 2008 car bomb attack.
